First Step to Work
This course provides students with the skills to look for, apply and maintain a
full time job or college course. It aims to improve students’ basic skills, IT,
communication and team work skills. It also offers each student the opportunity
to gain a range of nationally recognised qualifications. This is a popular
course as it offers many routes for progression, and there are a limited number
of places available. This course is specifically aimed at Year 10 and 11 pupils
who are not attending school or those attending on a part-time basis. At
Tameside College, we understand that all students have different abilities and
we aim to provide a valuable and enjoyable learning experience for all. During
the initial stages of the programme, we assess a student’s literacy and
numeracy, so that we understand their strengths and weaknesses and can provide
each individual with the necessary support. This course can also be combined
with:
- Part-time attendance at school
- A Long-term work placement. This can be
arranged through Tameside Education Business Partnership (0161 609 1250)
- Attendance on other projects.
