Dean Renshaw completed an HND in Mechanical Engineering at Tameside College in 2013. Prior to that, Dean had studied for a Performing Engineering Operations Diploma, a BTEC and a HNC in Mechanical Engineering. Since his first day at the College, Dean demonstrated a remarkable dedication to his studies, which was rewarded with 14 distinctions and two passes in courses such as Mechanical Principles, Computer Aided Machining and Business Improvement Techniques.
Dean is currently working as a full-time Technical - Design Engineer at Hawke International, a leading organisation in cable connection and termination products for use in hazardous areas and hostile environments, located in Ashton-under-Lyne. Dean is also planning to study for a BA (Hons) Degree in Design through Open University, in an effort to further enhance his skills in design in the future.
Dean said about his experience at Tameside College: “I feel that Tameside College played an important role in my career, not only because it equipped me with the necessary tools to learn and progress, but also because of its supportive environment. I learned how to manage my time, prioritise and solve problems and I became a better person in general. I would definitely recommend the College to young people. Tameside College always encouraged me to progress and push myself further.
In addition, combining studying and work was a big advantage, as you can transfer and apply skills from both
work and College. I can’t thank my past and current employers as well as my tutors at Tameside College, Peter Redfern and Tracey Roberts, enough for the support.”
Dean’s tutor, Tracey Roberts, said: “In September 2007 Dean enrolled on a Level 3 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering achieving excellent grades. Dean then made the seamless transition to Higher Education enrolling on HND in Mechanical Engineering in September 2009. Dean collected an amazing 14 Distinction grades from 16 units and achieved a Distinction grade overall. In 2012 Dean was awarded the EIA Award and the Engineering Student of the Year Prize. Dean is now a design engineer. Dean’s confidence and technical ability grew through each course taken at Tameside College as he was extremely dedicated to his studies to the point that he is now highly regarded in the workplace.”
