Paul Scholes opens Sports Academy

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes and England U23 and Manchester City midfielder Isobel Christiansen were on the guest list at the Official Opening of Tameside College’s Sports Academy.

Tameside College students, staff and employees from local sporting and fitness businesses gathered to witness special guest Paul Scholes cutting the red ribbon as the Sports Academy officially opened its doors. Students were lucky enough to have their photo taken with the special sporting guests. Paul and Isobel signed shirts for the College which will take pride of place in the Sports Academy.

The day saw Paul and Isobel be team captains for a game of Futsal with Tameside College students in the new Sports Hall. There were also many activities taking place throughout the whole day including: fitness sessions, goalball and bubble football, visitors and students from across the college were able to test their sporting skills. Local school year 10 and 11’s were also invited to the day to see what Tameside College now offers and the Sports and Public Services courses available to them.

The Sports Academy, part of the College’s VisionTameside project, has brand new facilities and equipment including: A four-court sports hall, 30+ exercise stations, Synergy apparatus for functional training, two Olympic lifting platforms, studio space for group exercise and high-spec separate male and female changing facilities.
