Virtual Welder inspires learners at Careers Event

Tameside College was pleased to attend Manchester City Council’s annual Careers Aspiration Event last week inspiring younger learners towards a career in Engineering through ‘have-a-go’ sessions at Manchester Central Convention Centre.  As a major provider of Engineering provision with a wide range of vocational programmes from Level 1 to HNC/HND Level Engineering, Tameside College was keen to talk to students about their career aspirations and future options in Engineering.

With over 1,200 young people attending the Careers Aspiration Event from schools all over Manchester, the Engineering team had their work cut out for them as students quickly queued up to have a go on the virtual welder. Engineering Tutor David Warrender said: “The virtual welder is a fantastic educational tool as students can have a go at Welding without even entering a workshop! It’s a learning tool that we use regularly at the College and we find that team learning and interaction levels are higher with the virtual welder.

David added: “With Tameside College undertaking major capital investment in its engineering and industrial provision, events like these are key for us getting the message out to students that a career in Engineering is both professionally and financially rewarding. There is a great deal of diversity with a career in Engineering. At Tameside College we’re hoping to develop our traditional engineering and manufacturing technician training as well as develop skills in new manufacturing technologies and processes for future students.”
