Tameside College Computing HE students visited a web design studio in Hyde with their tutors, Shebnem Harris and John Pywell, to gain an insight into current practices, technologies and trends used in the web development industry.
Fluid Creativity is a highly successful company with clients ranging from small local businesses to multi national corporations. Managing Director, Lee Turner invited HND and HNC Computing students to the studio and gave them a tour of the high tech equipment and to demonstrate how the business works.
Lee discussed the importance of up to date training and knowledge something he believes is fundamental while training. As he demonstrated the company’s development projects and client relations, he was joined by Wayne Silcock, Head of Creative, to give an overview of his design skills. The purpose of the talk was to provide the students with industrial knowledge that will help them progress on the course and understand the industry.
The day concluded with a web design task where students were asked to create their own web site using web development programme, PHP, with the student who created the best website getting one week’s work placement at Fluid Creativity.
HE Computing Course Leader Shebnem Harris said, “The students came away from the visit highly motivated and very enthusiastic about completing the web design task. We all found Lee’s suggestions invaluable and we will try and incorporate his ideas to further the students learning. Fluid Creativity have also expressed their willingness to continue working with the Computing area at Tameside College.”
