Top Prizes for Top Bakers

The Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees Bakery Competition took place this month in Torquay, with 11 Tameside College students finishing in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, more prizes than the College has ever won in the competition.
A number of categories were held with a specialised theme or discipline, including Morning Goods, Cereal Bars, Cakes and Scones. There was also a ‘California Raisin’ round, which the college won last year, with the two top competitors being Tameside College students.
Every student who won collected a Certificate of Achievement, with some winning trophies and even cash prizes and vouchers. Bakery tutor Lorna Jones said, “Having so many students winning the top 3 prizes is a fantastic achievement. They have all worked so hard and thoroughly enjoy competing in events like these. The department will look forward to the next competition where, I am sure, the college will be just as successful.”
