Tameside College held its annual Food Studies Competition for 2009 allowing learners to showcase their talents and to be assessed by an expert panel of judges. The judges came from various companies including representatives from The Association Culinaire Française (ACF) and Morrisons.
The winners of each of the many categories received a certificate and prize. Live competitions in catering and bakery were also held which were judged throughout the day and for the first time demonstrations of themed table settings, showing the depth of skills within the department of Food. The general quality of all the entrants was of an exceptional standard which made the judging extremely difficult.
The winners from each area were announced to the Food Studies students and tutors in the Courtyard Theatre, along with industry experts who handed the awards out to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place competitors.
Bakery Lecturer Bill Barlow said, “The students should be proud of what they have produced and the fine displays that they put on. Tutors assisted the students in developing their skills as they gained recognition for their efforts from industry professionals, whilst receiving certificates for which they can be proud.”
He went on to say, “We express our thanks to the sponsors who have supported the event and the College. They value the links they have with Tameside College and are willing to support us in any way that they can.”
The event was sponsored by Dawn Foods, Association Culinaire Francais, Bako, Morrisons, Jordons, Nuttalls, Renshaw, A.W. Levings, R. Noone & Sons, Russums, Reynards, 3663, Balmoral, Dunsters Farm Ltd and M.J.H.
