Young parents attended a specialised course at Tameside College where they completed a number of programmes, providing them with qualifications and raising their education and career aspirations.

The Young Parents Programme is a pilot scheme funded by Connexions Tameside, which offers a number of qualifications ranging from Literacy and Numeracy skills to the St John’s Ambulance Certificate in Child and Infant Emergency Life Support.

A presentation was held after the parents completed the 10 week programme, where each student received a Certificate of Achievement for the courses they completed. Tutors also rewarded the parents with a special ‘Look and Feel Good’ Spa day at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, and a farewell party at ‘Slide and Seek’ in Hyde for both parents and children.

Entry 2 Employment tutor Sharon Bailey said, “The pilot scheme proved to be a huge success and congratulations to all the young parents who completed the course. Due to the overwhelming success, we are now hoping to run the course again next year.”
