Summer College 2009
Fri, 14 August 2009
Summer College proved to be as popular as ever with local high school students as they attended the week long programme at Tameside College, providing an insight into college life and the courses available to them.
The year 9 students attended various course sessions that included Engineering, Hair and Beauty, Catering and Hospitality, Dance and Motor Vehicle. The week long sessions involved practical work, with current students giving a firsthand account of life at Tameside College. Outside of the classroom, students took visits to the Chill Factor and bowling along with other activities, which highlighted the enrichment programmes that are currently taking place.
To get a complete taste of college life, the student social space was open, so students could play pool, table tennis and also used the Wii Fit on the large projector screens, that is open throughout the year. On the last day, students and tutors attended a presentation in the Courtyard Theatre, with each student being presented with a Certificate of Achievement from Vice Principal Ann Pryer.
School Links Leader Kevin Davis said, “This year’s Summer College has proved to be one of the best. We have seen almost 120 students attend the college, covering a wide range of courses.”
