Tameside College in Association with Mercedes Benz

Mercedes Benz and Tameside College have entered into an associate relationship to deliver the mandatory LGV Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) from September 2009.

The certificate will complement the excellent work currently being done within the College in regard to Driver Goods Vehicle NVQs. The Drivers CPC will become a legal requirement for all drivers handling LGV’s over 3 ½ tonnes from September and Tameside College are proud to be providing the qualification for drivers throughout the North West in association with Mercedes Benz UK.

Ken Bate Commercial Director for the College said, “This is a real coup for Tameside College; 30 associate organisations cover the whole country to form a network, we were selected by Mercedes Benz after quite an exhaustive process of elimination to represent the prestigious brand mark, this speaks volumes about the perceived quality of our provision.”

“The introduction of the CPC legislation is an issue that affects us all no matter what badge you have on the front of your vehicle. Our training programme covers CPC approved content relevant to all drivers of all trucks.”

A fleet of specially converted and liveried training vehicles has been made ready by Mercedes and will be utilised to deliver the programme. Peter Ryder, Principal of Tameside College comments, "The College has developed a very strong reputation for employer responsive training and we are proud to be working with Mercedes Benz. This partnership brings together two organisations committed to delivering the very best for the Logistic industry; we anticipate high demand for this service and encourage Operators and Drivers alike to choose the training they need with the quality they demand - Tameside will deliver the goods."

Ian Jones, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles said, "Mercedes-Benz has a long history of providing top quality training to help truck drivers get the best out of their vehicles. With the recent introduction of Driver Training legislation, we are delighted to partner with Tameside College as part of a nationwide offer of tailored courses that fulfills all of the legislative requirements for all truck drivers - individuals or fleets, local or national, Mercedes Benz or all makes."
