Work Focussed Training Success!
Wed, 23 September 2009
Tameside College are now running free, work-focussed training courses for anyone who has recently been made redundant or who have been claiming Job Seekers Allowance for 6 months or more.
Layla Bamber, from Ashton-under-Lyne, is one person who has benefited from this. Layla was made redundant in 2007 and had been finding it difficult to gain employment. She found out about the courses available at Tameside College by her Job Centre Adviser and chose to attend a Customer Service course which started in August. The course covered the basics of customer service over 2 weeks, covering interview techniques and a CV workshop, culminating in practical work experience where everyone on the course acted as a college representative during the GCSE enrolment days.
Following the course, Layla had a one to one session with Sarah Moran, Recruitment Consultant for the project and together they tailored Layla’s CV so that it was more focussed on the type of role she wanted to find. Sarah then spoke to several local employers including Terry Clarke of Olympia Furniture, who was looking to recruit a Trainee Administrator. Layla was interviewed by Terry the next day and was asked to start work 2 days later! She is now enjoying her role as an Administrator and is also gaining experience on Reception. Layla said “I really enjoyed the course and I’m very happy to have found a job through it. I’d recommend it to anyone!”
If any local employers would like to make use of this free recruitment service, Sarah can be contacted on 0161 908 6782, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
