XL Triathlon

Tameside XL Triathlon in October started at The Copley Centre in Stalybridge. Around 100 individual competitors and 13 relay teams took part in the Triathlon hosted by Tameside Sports Services in partnership with Uberfit Events.

Athletes varied from amateur to professional and ranged from 15 to 61 years old. The event was sponsored by New Charter Housing Trust Group and was supported by sports massage students from Tameside College. The students provided sports massages before and after the event at The Copley Centre where the 500m sprint swim started off the race. The triathlon will go towards the 40 hours field experience required for their Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage.

Students at the event were Claudine Tait, Dariusz Wietecha, Sean Lenihan and Steven Booth who treated a number of athletes who were very pleased with their work. Maria Cacia, Sports tutor said ’It was a brilliant experience and the students really enjoyed working with clients. Everybody had a great day.’ Athletes were very enthusiastic about the free service that was being offered by Tameside College.
