Bakery Students Rise to the Challenge

The Annual Bakers Fair Competition is the UK’s only autumn exhibition for professionals in the bakery industry.
Tameside College students took part in the exciting event armed with freshly baked bread, pizza and scones in a bid to showcase their culinary skills. Overall the students produced some fantastic bakery produce sweeping the board and gaining 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Kirsty Scott won 1st place in scone making, Rebecca McLoughlin achieved 2nd and Sarah Bowden came 3rd whilst also achieving 2nd place for her pizza, followed up by Christopher Barrett. Abbie Mountford, gained a respectable 3rd place for her bread making.  The ultimate accolade for the College was when they were announced the overall winners of ‘The British Bakers’ Trophy.

Bakery tutor, Lorna Jones said, “It was great to see Tameside College doing so well in Manchester, our home town, and at the start of the academic year too. I look forward to other competitions especially the Bakery Exhibition in London next year.”
