The King of Thailand’s birthday

Assistant Principal and Head of International Developments Chris Massey was invited to an event to celebrate the King of Thailands birthday where he presented  a gift on behalf of Tameside College and the Principal Peter Ryder.   Chris was accompanied by Krin Sirisambhand, Chair of The Thai Culture Forum UK and met with the Ambassador for Thailand, Mr Kitti Wasinondh and his wife.

The 5th of December marks one of the most significant days for Thai people, since it is the birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, recognised as the great leader of the land. The King unfortunately was too ill to attend the occasion in London which was just one of many as countries all around the world were celebrating similar events.

The whole of Thailand celebrates His Majesty the King’s birthday and activities are arranged especially in honour of the beloved monarch, who is recognised for his wide-ranging talents.

The Thai Government has donated a fund of one billion baht to the Ananda Mahidol Foundation, which grants scholarships for brilliant Thai students to pursue post-graduate studies abroad. The Foundation was established by His Majesty the King, who is recognised for his ingenuity as “Teacher of the Land.”
