Stella Marks

Teaching Assistant student, Stella Marks saved a bus passenger’s life just an hour after completing her Appointed First-Aider qualification at Tameside College.

With her certificate in hand, Stella made her way to Stockport Bus Depot where all of the passengers had vacated a bus as a lady had been taken ill and was slumped in her seat with a weak pulse. Stella quickly put her First Aid knowledge and skills into practice. She kept the lady calm and put her into the recovery position until the emergency services arrived.

Stella had only just gained her Appointed First-Aider qualification at Tameside College and identified that the position of the lady may have restricted her breathing. The woman had fallen ill after suffering from very low blood pressure and received treatment after being taken to hospital. Stella phoned to enquire about her progress and won praise from the nurses. Stella added: “The nurse said I should be very proud of myself because I saved a life.”

Stella’s quick thinking and First Aid skills ensured the lady’s condition remained stable and aided her full recovery.
