Sweet Success

Sweet Success

The ‘Sweet Success’ challenge took place at Tameside College recently with two groups of Accounting students who were asked to build a box of original chocolates within a limited time scale and budget. They also had to create the packaging and design a marketing strategy to sell their chocolate sensation. AAT Accounting tutors, Catherine Andrews, Gill Myers and Sarah Gregory supervised the session and judged the final pitch, which turned out to be plenty of fun!

The first group targeted couples calling their box of chocolates, ‘Desire’, which was designed for sharing. The tutors were very impressed with this idea and their advert, which involved 2 people arguing over chocolates. “This was an excellent idea which filled the brief. The box was great separated into two halves with a chocolate to share and with a card showing what each chocolate contained”, says Catherine.

‘Chocotastic’ was designed by the second group who had colour coded their chocolates using Smarties. The advert was very topical with an Alice in Wonderland theme and the box shaped like the Mad Hatter’s hat. They had a Unique Selling Point which was the offer of a half price child’s Cineworld ticket and the chocolates would be for sale in Cineworld.

The objective of this session was to stimulate creativity and encourage more ideas amongst the students. It demonstrated the value of group effort and budgetary control. All the students really enjoyed the event and got to eat lots of chocolate. The Level 2 and Level 3 students were split between the groups so got to work together which was great for team building.
