Baking Industry Exhibition - California Raisins 2010

A team of Bakery students are through to the final three of the California Raisins Young Bakers Competition.

Bakery students from Tameside College visited the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham to support their colleagues, the Tameside Bakery Craft team.

The team have been selected as one of the top three teams in the competition and the winner will be announced at the student conference dinner in June. The team were fantastic and did a terrific job in their heat.

Bakery tutor, Lorna Jones explains “This is the third time this competition has been held and our students have a lot at stake defending this award as we have won this competition twice, each time securing a continental Scholarship to study Bakery techniques.”

This year the winning team will travel to Switzerland to the world renowned Richemont School in Lucerne. The team consists of Cameron Potts, Fay Corrigan and Rebekah Simpson, all full time Bakery students. In order to win a place in the final the team had to do a “Bake Off” competition in the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, under the spot light and scrutiny of the judges, making a whole range of delicious Bakery products.

Overall, this was a fantastic event which all of the students really enjoyed as part of their enrichment programme.
