Community Orchard Planting Day

Community Orchard Planting Day

Tameside College students took part in the Community Planting Orchard Day as part of their Skills for Independence and Work programme. The initiative is a partnership between the District Assembly and Hyde Park Cafe and has been funded by a £3,000 grant from Tameside Council. The Project was launched by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Jean Brazil. Alongside the Hair and Beauty students, pupils from the local primary schools had a fun afternoon planting apple, cherry, plum and pear trees for Hyde’s Community Orchard.

Hair and Beauty tutor Christianne Garbett commented “It was a great feeling to know that we were part of creating some history in Hyde Park. The students gained confidence in working with other areas of the community and were really proud of their achievements by the end of a very cold day.”
