World Book Day

World Book Day

Tameside College will be hosting their annual World Book Day Event to take place on 3rd March 2011. World Book Day is the largest annual celebration of books and reading in the UK and Ireland.

On the day, Principal Peter Ryder will be reading the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle to children in the crèche accompanied by the library’s very own caterpillar Angela Duxbury, Library Centre Assistant. Angela will be dressed in a caterpillar costume designed by the fashion department and the children will enjoy a range of healthy snacks along with their very own copy of the book.

The library will then be hosting their own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party where staff will dress up as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Students will be encouraged to create their own mad hat for the occasion with prizes to be won on the day.

Leading up to the event, there will be an interactive online quiz ‘Alice’, giving the students a chance to win an iPod shuffle. Tameside College will exhibit books chosen as part of World Book Night; an initiative that aims to give away one million books on the night.
