Tameside College Visits China

Representatives from Tameside College visited China to set up a new partnership with the Jiangbin Vocational School. The trip was funded by the British Council as part of an initiative to provide opportunities for English Colleges to collaborate and develop educational initiatives with other countries.

The three day visit to Hangzhou included Head of International Development Chris Massey, Fashion Tutor Jacqueline Roberts and Art Tutor Anne Elizabeth Orton. The curriculum focus included Graphic Design, Fashion (Tameside College), Animation and Concept Art (Doncaster College).

During the visit, both colleges were shown around the Schools to view their working practices and observe classroom sessions.  Head of Art and Design at Tameside College, Andy Cheers, commented "The trip to China has proved a real boon for the department and the staff concerned. The two tutors who visited have returned with a real understanding of how Art and Design is taught in China. We are looking forward to meeting our Chinese colleague in a few weeks time when they visit the UK to see Art and Design teaching in this country and our students will get the opportunity to meet art teachers from China."

The visit to China proved to be a great success and the project is set to continue as an exchange visit has already been arranged for the Chinese representatives to visit Tameside College to observe practices in the Art and Design department.
