National Doughnut Week

National Doughnut Week

Tameside College celebrated a whole week of doughnut production as National Doughnut Week took over the college with bakery students producing the delicious products to sell in the Bakery Shop.

The national event, which is sponsored by 'Bake Mark UK', encouraged staff and students to buy a selection of the cakes, with proceeds going towards 'The Children’s Trust' charity. Level 1 and 2 Bakery students baked different types of doughnuts including chocolate, jam and iced.

Each year National Doughnut Week raises money for 'The Children’s Trust', a charitable organisation helping young people with disabilities. Since the national event started 25 years ago, the week has raised over £600,000. This year Tameside College hopes to play a large part in the fundraising with 20p of each doughnut sold going to 'The Children’s Trust'.

Bakery tutor Bill Barlow said, "The students loved baking and decorating the doughnuts. They have taught themselves some key bakery skills whilst raising £50 for such a good cause."
