Youth Achievement Awards 2011
Tue, 13 December 2011
The borough held its first Pride of Tameside Youth Achievement Awards at Dukinfield Town Hall, in the presence of The Worshipful, Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Susan Quinn.
During 2010, Tameside College launched a campaign which highlighted student success stories using a “Pride of Tameside” brand. The awards were designed to raise the profile of talented young people in the borough and to raise the aspirations of others who could be inspired by what their peers had achieved. The “Pride of Tameside” theme has now been expanded to celebrate the achievements of people from across Tameside in other fields such as volunteering, sport and business.
The first Tameside Youth Achievement Awards celebrated young people’s success with their schools and colleges, family and friends. The Awards have two lead sponsors – Tameside College and Tameside Council. Business sponsors include Brother UK and Tameside Radio.
The evening’s entertainment started with a performance from the Ashton Sixth Form College Chamber Choir, followed by ‘The Lost Generation’ a poem performed by students from Copley High School. The guests enjoyed two inspirational speeches during the ceremony presented by Claire Bibby, Assistant Executive Director, Schools, Youth and Community and teen-trepreneur, Sabirul Islam.
The Awards presentation then smoothly commenced, covering the twelve categories for the Youth Achievement Awards. All nominees had to be aged between 14-19 years old and studying in Tameside Metropolitan Borough, the categories, nominations and winners are listed below:
