Forty job seekers find employment after going through an intensive training package with Tameside College.

Three groups of job seekers were referred to Tameside College by Avanta, a local employment firm. Over a three week period, the college focused on boosting each individual’s employability by taking them through a number of suitable qualifications.

The qualifications ranged from more practical programmes such as Food Hygiene and Health & Safety to other more customised programmes such as interview techniques and communication skills. After completing the intensive training programmes, forty of the candidates managed to successfully gain permanent employment with the Ashton based company, Hill Biscuits.

One of the successful candidates, Shelley Hanlon, said “Tameside College has really helped me to improve my confidence. I feel that the teamwork and communication skills that I have learnt will definitely benefit me in my employment. Being part of a group at College before we start work together has really increased my self confidence, it’s great to start work not being the only new employee”.

Project Manager, Maxine Roberts, said “Tameside College works very closely with our three borough job centres in assisting unemployed local people to access work related training. Our aim is to help people either re-skill or up-skill in order to secure employment. We are delighted to be working with Avanta and Hill Biscuits to achieve such a huge recruitment success story”.

If you are currently unemployed or newly redundant and would like more information about work related training please contact Louise Stokes on 0161 908 6590.
