International Artist Visits Tameside College

The Art & Design department at Tameside College enjoyed a special visit from the inspirational Artist, Susie MacMurray. Susie specialises in drawing, sculpture and architectural installations. She began her career as a classical musician but took the decision to retrain as an Artist, graduating with an MA in Fine Art in 2001. Susie has now built up an international exhibition profile and shows regularly in the USA and Europe as well as the UK.

Students from various subject areas within the Art & Design department all came together to benefit from the distinctive visit. Susie delivered a slide show presentation explaining in detail how her work progressed from the original concept, through to the creation process and finally how the work is used in the business world.

A Question & Answer session followed the presentation, during which students and staff had the opportunity to ask Susie specific questions about her work and career.

Art & Design student, Jayna Mistry, said “Her work is unique and inspiring, as Susie uses so many different materials”.

Before the visit came to an end, Art & Design students, Matthew Smith, Jayna Mistry and Matthew Morley presented Susie with a bouquet of flowers. All the students were truly inspired by Susie and are currently looking at ways of incorporating her work in to their projects.

Susie, said, “I had a very enjoyable time and I love my beautiful flowers. I hope the visit will have a positive effect on the students”.
