The Road to Success

The progress from Pre-Apprenticeship to Level 2 Apprenticeship and then Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship has been a steady learning curve for Motor Vehicle student Nathan Burke.

Thanks to the support given by all his tutors he feels that he is well on track to achieving his goals – one of which is to run his own business. “Combining studying with working has been a great way to put all the skills I’ve picked up into practice,” he said. “I’ve managed to learn both theory and practical aspects of the motor vehicle industry and my ambitions to open my own business may be possible due to the chance to buy out my current employer.”

Although his apprenticeship courses have allowed him to work while studying, he says the enrichment opportunities provided by the college have also been extremely useful. “Sometimes it’s great to see something different and the trip to the Mini Sports Show was amazing as we watched demonstrations and were able to see all the different parts produced for classic Minis, including gearboxes and rebuilt engines.”

While self-employment may be his ultimate goal, for now though Nathan is planning on completing both his Level 4 Technician and VOSA MOT qualifications in order to equip him with as many of the skills needed to achieve that goal as possible.
