Graphics students took on the challenge of producing an inspirational image for the Manchester Women’s Institute’s very first calendar.

The Manchester WI (Women’s Institute) wanted their first calendar to be based on inspirational women from Greater Manchester and decided to enlist the help of Tameside College Graphics students.

The creative learners were free to use any design style they wanted to produce an original image of the famous comedienne, actress and writer Victoria Wood. The Manchester WI then selected their favourite image to be used for one of the calendar months.

The group gained ‘real life’ experience, working to a live brief with the opportunity to achieve recognition for their artwork. The standard of the work produced was excellent, but it was Paige Robinson’s design that caught the judge’s attention for clearly capturing Victoria’s iconic persona.

Paige, studying for a BTEC Level 3 in Graphics, said "I really enjoyed creating the digital illustration of Victoria Wood. I chose a more iconic picture of her to base my design on so that people would connect and instantly recognise her. It's so exciting to have my work professionally published."

All proceeds from the calendar will go directly to the Manchester WI sponsored charity, Paws 4 Kids.
