Successful Recruitment Events for Snipe

In November 2013, Jobcentre Plus and Tameside College teamed up to deliver two Sector Based Work Academies for jobseekers aged between 18 and 24 years to apply to work at Ashton’s new Home Bargains store.

The Academies supported 20 young people to develop their interview skills, equipped them with customer service experience and assisted them throughout the demanding process of applying for the vacancies on offer. All the young applicants also achieved a certificate in Equality and Diversity. The young people have now been put forward for interviews with Home Bargains which is due to open on Snipe Retail Park, Ashton Moss, in December.

Jobcentre Plus also recruited successfully for the new Dunelm store which opened on November 14th 2013 on the Snipe Retail Park. 75 positions were up for grabs via another open recruitment event and a Jobcentre Plus Sector Based Work Academy delivered by Tameside College.

Maxine Roberts, Adult & Community Development Manager at Tameside College, said: “Tameside College is delighted to be working in partnership with JCP and a range of national employers that are opening new retail outlets in the Tameside Borough. Sector Based Work Academies, delivered by the College, give local unemployed people the best possible opportunity to access and secure local employment. Candidates accessing the Academy programmes receive training in Customer Service, completing job application forms and help with interview techniques. Academies have been delivered for Iceland, Marks and Spencer, KFC, Home Bargains and of course the new Dunelm store on the Snipe Retail Park. We wish all our academy candidates every success for the future!”
