Poetry wins student Nando’s voucher

Tameside College and Hyde Clarendon Functional Skills department held an English Week to engage learners in all things English. Several competitions were organised to make English fun.

There was a poetry competition which encouraged students to be a little creative and compose poems on the theme of the College. The functional skills team had a tough time on their hands judging all 50 excellent entries from across both sites.

Functional Skills tutor, Andrew Morgan said; “The standard of work was exceptional, imaginative and highly entertaining.”

After much deliberation the judges chose the poem ‘Paul’ named after one of the College tutors, which was written by Joshua Swift.  Joshua received a certificate and a 20 pounds Nando’s voucher for the excellent poem he had written.

Throughout English Week many students were involved with other activities such as challenge the tutor, poster making, bring the tutor to English, badge making and quizzes.
