Students meet Fabulous Baker Brothers

Two keen Tameside College bakers met Channel 4’s The Fabulous Baker Brothers when they attended the Foodex Exhibition in Birmingham. The bakers attended the exhibition to compete in the Easter Bakery Competition 2014.

The level three Bakery students, Filippo Salvaggio and Daniel Milner, who study at Tameside College took part in the competition to create an Easter Themed bread display which featured a bread display plaque, five artisan breads, five different types of bun products and two types of bread plaits.

The multi-college competition, which included Birmingham School of Food and Sheffield College was judged by Channel 4’s ‘The Fabulous Baker Brothers’. Filippo and Daniel were runners up in the competition for their creations. Their entries were praised by the judges who also extended an invitation for work experience to the two learners.

Lorna Jones, Curriculum Leader for Food Studies at Tameside College said; “It was a good opportunity for Filippo and Daniel to learn new skills and fine tune existing skills. It also gave them the experience of the competitive environment and gave them the chance to meet industry professionals, manufacturers and suppliers.”
