Tag Rugby Champions

Tameside College’s Dovestones students showed-off their competitive spirit when they went head-to-head with other educational establishments in a Tag Rugby competition on Wednesday 14th May. The seven students involved were crowned champions and received medals from Blackburn RUFC in conjunction with the British RFU.

The team was made up of students, Philip Service, Bilal Ajmal, Patrick Finningan, Harry Heywood, Prem Solanki, Alex Finnigan and Mahbub Ali, who all trained for many weeks to prepare for the North West Competition. Students were supported by Sports and Fitness tutor, Mark Ewbank.

The rugby match was not only fun for the Dovestones students, but also educational as it encouraged them to work as part of a team, to communicate and develop their social skills when interacting with unfamiliar peers in a competitive environment.

Diploma in Personal Progress student, Alex Finnigan said; “We all played great as a team and it was a cool day, we were the champions.”
