Students get their skates on

Students from Tameside College’s Dovestones Department got their skates on and enjoyed a fun filled afternoon on the skating rink at the Tameside Christmas Markets on Tuesday 16th December.

This was an opportunity for students to interact and do something that they may have never done before. Students were supported by tutors on the rink; even those who are less able were overjoyed when they were also able to go on the skating rink and have the same experience that others had.

Dovestones is a purpose-built facility at Tameside College that has superb equipment and specialist resources to meet the needs of students with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities so the skating was an overwhelming and exciting experience for the students of Dovestones.

Head of Dovestones at Tameside College, Rebecca Bromley-Woods commented; “It’s wonderful to see the students having so much fun, they are really excited to be amongst the people on the Skating Rink in Ashton. This is an exciting addition to our after-college enrichment programme and a great opportunity to demonstrate our ‘can-do’ attitude within the community.”

As Tameside College is an official sponsor of the Great2Skate Skating Rink they had the opportunity to allow students the chance to engage with each other on the rink. Overall over 100 of the college students were given a Christmas reward as recognition of their efforts in college and given the chance to have some fun on the skating rink.

Tameside College Public Services students are showing their support at this year’s Christmas Markets by helping marshal and keep the crowds at bay. This opportunity of work experience will allow the students to improve their CV’s and become more employable.
