Deputy Principal retires after 28 years of service

Tameside College bid a sad farewell to Deputy Principal Jenny Worsdale after deciding to retire after over 28 years of service in Education.

Jenny began her journey after attaining a degree in Mathematics from Lancaster University; she then went on to do her Masters in Primary Education at Manchester University and a further Masters degree in Educational Management at Sheffield Hallam University.

She began firstly teaching in Primary Education in 1973, progressing onto Secondary Education in 1980 before joining Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College in 1986. Although initially joining Hyde Clarendon to teach Mathematics and Information Technology, Jenny quickly moved up in the College to become Head of Hyde Clarendon and finally, Deputy Principal of Tameside College.

Speaking of her time at the College she said: “The College has changed so much over the years but I stayed so long because I thoroughly enjoyed working there. I have met so many wonderful students and worked with many, many dedicated and talented staff who wants the best for each and every student. I have many fond memories and made many friendships from my time there."

To give Jenny a true Tameside College send off, a surprise party was organised by the HR and Principalship Administration teams to take place in the College’s Refectory with over 100 members of staff turning out for the farewell bash. A selection of cakes as well as tea and champagne were available for staff, co-ordinated by Tameside College’s own Food & Business Professionals students.

Surrounded by friends and family in Tameside College’s Refectory, Jenny made her way through the room talking with party goers, amongst them former members of staff who returned to Tameside College to celebrate her fantastic career in Education, some returning after years of absence.

As a special keepsake, a book of everyone’s fondest memories of working with Jenny along with photos of every team was presented to her but was not to be beaten by a table full of flowers and other gifts that staff had bought to say thank you to Jenny.

When asked what her plans for retirement would be she replied: “Initially I have holidays planned to Germany and to Norway. I have two gorgeous grandsons to spend time with and hope to continue to work part-time as an Educational Consultant."

From everyone at Tameside College, we wish Jenny a wonderful retirement and a big thank you for all that she has done for the College. She’ll be truly missed.
