TCFE hosts interviews for Food Industry giant

This week one of the UK’s leading pub and brewing companies, Greene King plc approached Tameside College to use their Tameside Centre for Enterprise as a venue to interview Food & Business Professionals from the College.

Upon hearing about Tameside College’s excellent reputation for producing exceptional Food and Hospitality professionals in Greater Manchester through excellent teaching and top facilities; Greene King plc asked that Tameside College’s students be the first to interview for their new establishment. The Food Industry giant is in the process of opening a brand new family restaurant that will feature a fresh daily carvery, classic pub dishes, tasty homemade desserts, coffee and ‘Cake Away’ ice cream parlour. An array of Cake Decorators, Chefs, Supervisors and kitchen staff are all needed to run the new restaurant which can seat up to 300 people at any one time.

Level 3 Hospitality Supervision students, Megan Evans and Jordan Philburn were the first to be interviewed for one of five Supervisor roles. “It’s a great opportunity for Food Studies students as we can get first-hand experience in the industry whilst we finish our courses. There’s also the possibility that part-time positions could turn into permanent full-time positions after we’ve finished College, which would be amazing.” Jordan explained.

Martin Coughlan, Department Head of Food & Business Professionals said: “Greene King plc manage 1,900 tenanted, leased and franchised pubs, restaurants and hotels. This makes their new establishment, Ash Tree Farm the perfect place for Tameside College’s budding Hospitality Managers, chefs and cake decoration specialists. Part-time jobs and work experience are enthusiastically encouraged as  part of  our learners study programme and form an essential link to succeed in the professional world of work. We see Greene King plc as an employer with a proven track record to advance skills, knowledge and high level employability attributes. “We are delighted to be part of their future development and successes”.
