College inspires Year 9 students

Tameside College recently took part in a Year 9 Careers Day at Astley Sports College to inspire young people in their future career options.

The College had 14 stands from a range of curriculum areas including, Hair & Beauty, Motor Vehicle, Health & Childcare, Engineering, Construction, Sport and Public Services, Computing and Food. All of which offered Year 9s the opportunity to take part in practical activities that gave an insight into each vocation including, pancake making at the Catering stand, reflex testing at the Sports and Public Services stand and drilling exercises at the Construction stand.

Tameside College’s High School Transition Manager, Kevin Davis said: “It’s great for us to visit schools like Astley Sports College because students have the opportunity to find out more about the variety of courses that Tameside College offers. Not everyone is suited to take A-Levels but our courses gear students towards University and excellent careers in all areas.”

Deputy Head of Astley Sports College, Paula Parker said: “We wish to thank Tameside College for providing excellent information, guidance and fun activities at our Careers Day. Their vast range of stalls was fantastic and our students really enjoyed the day trying out all the different engaging activities. The feedback from both our staff and students has been extremely positive. We look forward to working together with Tameside College in the near future.”
