Triple Gold for Food Studies students

Triple Gold for Food Studies students

Students from Tameside College Food Department had a clean sweep at this year’s Association Culinaire Francaise (ACF) North West College Cook and Serve Competition with a triple Gold win.

The competition took place at Bury College and saw the students compete against other Colleges from the Greater Manchester area.  They had three hours to prepare, cook and serve a three course meal and beverages for four guests using the theme of ‘Sustainability’. This meant that as many ingredients as possible were to be sourced from organic or sustainable sources and recyclable equipment.  Table settings were also designed in keeping with the theme which included edible flowers and herb garden to form part of the meal experience.

Level three Professional Cookery students, Akmol Hussein, Javan Bates, Charlotte Lee won Gold for the Food Preparation and Cooking category whilst Level three Food and Beverage Service Supervision students, Zac Wolfe and Vasiliki Dimitrouli took Gold for Food and Beverage Service. As a team combined they were thrilled to win Gold as well.

Zac Wolfe said: “We wanted to thank our fantastic tutors Allen Rotimi and Liz Sexton-Jones for all their support and extra practice sessions they put on to get us ready for the competition. We had a great time.”

Martin Coughlin, Head of Food & Business Professionals at Tameside College said: “Cook and serve competitions like this are so important for our students because of the experience they get. It instils in them the essential qualities needed to be successful in the food and hospitality industry especially team work. The students did a brilliant job coming away with triple Gold awards; they did our department and the College proud.”
