Students excel on evening Master Chef course

Watch out John Torode, there are some new Master Chefs in town after Tameside College Cookery students passed their Master Chef culinary course with flying colours.

Local residents have been joining Food Studies lecturer, Peter Cooke in the kitchen every Tuesday night for the last 5 weeks to brush up on their cooking skills and learn some new dishes.

Student Julie Beaumont said of her time on the course: “Everything about the process from booking through to taking the course was made easy by the staff who were all very helpful and friendly. From the very first session our Tutor Peter Cooke made it clear to us that the course was all about us and what we wanted to get out of it. He was more than happy to accommodate any recipes or ideas that we had in mind whilst at the same time teaching us lots of new techniques covering many different types of dishes. We had a fantastic experience on the Master Chef course, it was great value for money.”

Master Chef students learned principles and methods of cookery whilst covering dishes from around the world. By the end of the course students were able to plan and develop their own dishes, using professional presentation techniques.

Students celebrated completing the Master Chef course by cooking a selection of their favourite dishes and sitting down to have a three course meal together.

Peter Cooke said: “It’s great fun running the Master Chef evening course as students are eager to learn and really enthusiastic about cooking. We welcome learners of all levels; it’s a great way to improve your confidence in the kitchen.”
