Students are taught five star dining practises

A selection of 10 lucky Professional Food Studies students who had shown exemplary commitment to their studies and had 100% attendance at College got the chance to experience high end accommodation and fine dining in England’s capital.

Students visited the prestigious Berkeley Hotel which offers five star accommodation and dining in central London, something that many students had never experienced before.  As well as having elegant rooms and suites featuring designer furnishings the hotel features upscale dining including restaurants from celebrity chefs Marcus Wareing and Pierre Koffmann.

Hospitality Lecturer, Charlotte Rowarth said: “The Berkeley Hotel has outstanding facilities. Their in-house bakery and afternoon tea provision particularly helped students get ideas for fashion inspired sweet treats. The whole visit was a great success. Rewarding learners for their hard work, whilst inspiring them to aim high in their career aspirations is one of the best parts of being a teacher at Tameside College.”

Whilst in London the Food Studies students even got a chance to look behind the scenes of the catering in a 300 year old stately home. They were given a tour of the main function rooms, wine cellars and the silver and glass pantries.

Professional Cookery student, William Sterling was so enamoured by the residence that he has since applied for a front of house position at the residence for after he’s finished his course. He said: “We were so honoured to have been allowed inside this amazing residence and given the opportunity to witness what goes into providing one of the highest possible standards of service and hospitality provisions. I saw the level of detail and hard work the staff put in every day and decided that I wanted to be a part of it when I finish my course. It would be an incredible opportunity.”

Charlotte added: “This is not a tour which is offered to everyone so the students were really excited about seeing behind the scenes at such a prestigious residence. Our learners were the perfect representation of what we expect from students within the Professional Food Studies Department whatever level they are.  It goes to show that those students who put in the hard work, dedication and commitment are duly rewarded with fantastic opportunities such as this. We’re really proud of them.”
