Students celebrate their achievements at the Food Awards

Students dressed to impress to celebrate another fantastic year in the Food Studies & Business Professionals department with a Hollywood themed Awards Ball.

As another academic school year draws to a close, the Food Studies department celebrate a year of great success at their Annual Awards Ceremony with nearly 200 Food Studies students flocking to the Village Hotel in Ashton to enjoy food, live entertainment and music. BTEC Hospitality students organised the entire event from start to finish as part of their assignment work. They started with no budget and had to use their keen negotiation skills to arrange the evening.

Whilst the guests tucked into a lavish three course meal they were treated to an array of entertainment including a singing performance from Food Studies students Rakayah Chadwick, Jessica Thorpe and Lauren Mason alongside Lecturer Steve Lee’s band, NotNed and DJ.

Those lending support to the event included Roberts Bakery who also sponsored the evening and guest speaker Tony Hudson, Sales Manager for Ramada Hotels who gave students invaluable advice about working in the Food and Hospitality industry. Tony said on the night: “It’s a pleasure to be around such great young professionals tonight, congratulations on such outstanding achievements. My advice to those finishing College is to apply those important skills you have learned at College and be the best you can be. Customers are key to your success in Hospitality so always have a positive approach and deliver what you say you are going to deliver because you never know who you may be serving.”

As staff and students alike danced into the night, Faculty Director of Retail & Business Services, Martin Coughlan said: “The awards evening has gone brilliantly, our learners have done a fantastic job in organising everything; everyone has had a terrific time. I’d like to thank all our special guests, Tony Hudson from Ramada Hotels and Roberts Bakery for making the night extra special for our students. Everyone has worked so hard this year and it’s a privilege to be able to honour those who have achieved so much.”
