Tameside Mayor celebrates with Adult Learners

It was an evening of celebration for Learners as Tameside College held their Annual Adult Learners’ Presentation Evening as part of National Adult Learners Week 2015.

Tameside College hold an awards ceremony every year to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the Adult Learners who have gone back into education. The event was held in the presence of The Worshipful, The Civic Mayor and Mayoress of Tameside, Councillor Vincent Ricci and Mrs Julie Ricci.

Learners, Tutors, Governors, Senior Leadership Team and the Mayor and Mayoress all gathered for light refreshments before the event got underway. Guests were seated for Peter Ryder, Principal of the College’s opening speech. Students were called up one by one to receive their certificate and gift, which was presented to them by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Vincent Ricci.

Special awards were also given to the most outstanding learners, the Principal’s Award for Outstanding Learner was presented to Food and Hospitality student Jordan Philburn and the Jaynix Huxley Award was presented by the Huxley family to Art and Design student Kathleen Sandra Browne. The Jaynie Huxley Award is an Award that is presented every year to a Creative Industries student. The award is named in memory of former Creative Industries student, Jaynie Huxley, who sadly passed away.

Tameside College Principal Peter Ryder said; “The evening has been fantastic, it is something we do every year to recognise the hard work and dedication our adult learners put into their studies after returning to education. They have all done exceptionally well and we, as a College, are really proud of their achievements.”
