Students in the running to compete in Abu Dhabi

Two of Tameside College’s Food and Hospitality Supervision students are celebrating their achievements this summer as they have been named as finalists in the World Skills Front of House Competition, which means they will compete against seven others for the top spot to potentially go to represent England in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

Students, Zac Wolfe and Jordan Philburn competed at the World Skills Competition heat in Glasgow back in June and have recently been given the news that they have beat off much of the competition and are set to compete in the next stage at Colchester. The first competition saw Zac and Jordan show off their impressive Hospitality Skills which impressed judges and secured them a place in the semi-final.

Zac and Jordan won’t be celebrating for long before they are brushing up on their skills learnt at Tameside College to impress judges once again in the Colchester heat. They will be competing in August for the amazing final which will be in Birmingham in November with the ultimate prize of representing England in World Skills Competition Abu Dhabi 2017.

John Holden, Food and Hospitality Lecturer at Tameside College commented on the achievement of his students; “Zac and Jordan should be extremely proud of themselves, they have both worked very hard to secure their place in the Semi- final. All the staff here at Tameside College are proud of Zac and Jordan and wish them the best of luck in the next stage of the World Skills Competition. This achievement is a huge boost for the lads and shows that hard work and great support can help people get steps closer to their dream.”
