Students are runners up in GMCG Art & Design Skills Competition

Art and design students from Tameside College were delighted to be runners up against nine other Greater Manchester FE Colleges in this year’s GMCG Art & Design Skills Competition.

The event was organised by Art & Design lecturers from each participating College who put together a brief for the students to create compelling and extraordinary accessories from ordinary objects. This year’s theme was “Urban Relic”.

Runners up, Level 2 Art & Design student Liam Gooding and Level 3 Fashion and Clothing student Gemma Davies, created a stunning accessory made from zips and buttons.

Louise Hawson, Art & Design Lecturer at Tameside College said: “The students really got stuck into the brief we gave them. They came up with some fantastic original designs and we’re so proud of them for coming in second against all the other Colleges. They’ve had a great time.”

Other Tameside College entrants included Level 3 Fashion and Clothing students, Ellie Perati and Ella Hutton who created a fashionable body accessory out of inner tubes from a bicycle and plastic bottles.

Ellie said: “I’d definitely compete again. We’ve had such a good day and had loads of fun creating our designs. We loved the challenge.”
