Students celebrate placements at Tameside Hospital

As Health and Social Care students celebrate the end of another successful year at Tameside College, representatives from Tameside Hospital confirm further placements for students in the next academic year.

Level 3 Health and Social Care student Keely Oates who completed her placement at Tameside Hospital last month is now progressing onto a Nursing degree at The University of Salford. She said: “The placement has been an invaluable experience for students to see what being a Nurse is really like. How committed they are to their work and the hours they put in to care for patients is really inspirational. After completing the placement I feel more confident with the experience I’ve gained, it’s really helped me with my course.”

Keely and her fellow Health and Social Care students shadowed Nurses, prepared refreshments, changed beds, dressed wounds and made sure that all patients’ needs were met. They got to rotate their shift patterns so they could experience different wards including the Adult and Outpatient Wards.

Deborah Allen, Faculty Director for Health, Public Services and Care said: “Our partnership with Tameside General Hospital provides excellent opportunities for both learners and the College in promoting our community links. Having a clinical placement is invaluable experience for them and we are really proud of how they have represented the College in such a professional and positive way. The outcome of these first placements has been that the Trust has agreed to take on a new group of four learners in the new academic year which is fantastic.”

Yvonne Hewitt, Human Resources Project Manager for Tameside General Hospital said: “We have been delighted with the success of the project to date the Students have enriched our wards bringing in new ideas supported by up to date theory and practice, helped in managing the day to day work load and contributed to the maintenance of high clinical standards.  The students have been valuable members of our clinical teams.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with Tameside College and welcoming our next group of students in September.”
