Staff member raises over £1000 for charity after 1000 mile bike ride

Learning Support Officer for the Joinery team, Alan Wilson has successfully completed one of the most challenging bike rides in the country by travelling from John O’Groats in Scotland and cycling to Land’s End in Cornwall.

Having been an avid cycler and member of the Stockport Cycling Club for many years, Alan set his sights on one of the biggest challenges he’s ever faced, the End-to-End bike ride. A grueling 1000 mile bike ride that would take him around two weeks to complete, all self-funded.

Starting at John O’Groats in Scotland, the John O’Groats Bed and Breakfast rang the first bell as marker for the beginning of his journey through some of the most scenic towns and countryside in the UK.

Alan said: “The journey has been incredible and thankfully without incident as I cycled unsupported, carrying just two saddle bags of supplies on the bike. It’s been tough but I managed the journey in less time than I thought it would take me; 13 days cycling roughly 10 hours a day.”

At the end of the journey, Alan celebrated with fellow cyclists that had completed their ride the week before. He added: “I would definitely do the ride again. It was an amazing experience and a great personal accomplishment for me. Raising the money for the charities that are close to my heart has just been the icing on top of an already fantastic experience.”
