Employment scheme helps construction firms

New employment scheme helps construction firms develop the right skills.

Tameside College is inviting construction employers to sign up for a new initiative to help solve a skills shortage in the sector.

The Pathway to Construction programme helps young people start their careers in bricklaying, carpentry and civil engineering with the support of a ten week work trial.  Employers will receive £1000 for providing the placement to prepare the trainee for the world of work. The scheme has been developed and launched nationwide by the Cross Country Construction Apprenticeship Task Force. It is supported by the Federation of Master Builders who recently reported that bricklayers were earning up to £45,000 a year due to the shortage of skilled workers.

Carl Shaw, curriculum leader for construction and allied trades at Tameside College, said: "The Pathways to Construction links trainees with employers to help them progress into the workplace.  The scheme helps develop trainees develop their confidence and skills and helps employers develop the talent they need. With the support of Apprenticeship programmes it means that local businesses can make a real impact on developing its workforce."

Employers are invited to visit Tameside College on Friday 20th May to find out more about the Pathway to Construction initiative. This lunchtime event takes place from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Book your place today: https://pathway-to-construction.eventbrite.co.uk/
