Food students cook up a treat for Ashton Markets

Tameside College Food and Hospitality students recreated Reflections Restaurant in the heart of Ashton Market for the launch of Love Your Local Market 2016.

The students, led by Food Service teacher, John Holden brought a marquee, chairs, tables and a full array of cooking equipment with them to create a ‘Reflections Roadshow’ on the market square in Ashton.

Local residents and market shoppers were invited to try some of the delicious taster a tapas taster menu, which included olives or bread and soup for starters, a main course and dessert.

Chef Ray Jones and Level 1 Professional Cookery students prepared the meals whilst Food and Beverage Service students served the food to waiting customers. Maggie the Magpie, the Tameside Market’s mascot also made an appearance to show support for the Love Your Local Market Campaign.

All the food for the event was donated by Tameside Markets with all profits going to charity. To find out more about Love Your Local Market in Tameside click here.

John Holden, Food Service teacher at Tameside College commented: “It has been great to get behind the Love Your Local Market campaign and bring Reflections down to the market. It’s a great opportunity to support the local community and to show off what students can really do with their talents.”

Steven, Level 1 Professional Cookery student said: “I really enjoyed working on Ashton Market. There was plenty of customers and it kept me busy throughout the day.  It was a huge success and people seemed to love something new to try.”
