Hospitality stars retain trophy

Tameside College’s food and hospitality department has been awarded the Gilbert Lefevre Memorial trophy, by the Association Culinaire Francais (ACF), for the second year in a row.

The award was presented to staff and students by Phillipe Vandewalle, national president of the Disciples of Escoffier, at the ACF’s annual dinner in Stockport this month. The recognition follows the students’ success at the recent, ‘Cook and Serve’ competition, where they claimed three gold and two silver medals. The Gilbert Le Ferve Memorial Trophy is awarded to chefs and establishments who meet the high standards of the association.

Daniel Burgoine, Level 3 professional cookery student said: "I was so excited that we received the award; I didn't expect it at all. I practised all week for the competition in February, preparing dishes and it was well worth it to have an outcome like this from it."

Peter Cooke, Bakery and Hospitality teacher at Tameside College, said: “Everyone in the food department is very pleased to have been awarded the trophy. The students and staff have worked so hard this past year and they deserve this recognition. Our students can be proud of their continued success.”

Charlotte Lee, Daniel Burgoine, Will Smith, Cesca Harrison and Sean Power-Tarbatt accepted the award on behalf of Tameside College.
