Student’s ‘laser’ determination lands her exciting role

Jasmin Patel, a level 4 hair and beauty management student from Tameside College has accepted an exciting offer to run the laser clinic at Tameside College’s Beaufort Road Salon; showing that her passion and exceptional talent in beauty therapy made her an ideal candidate for the role.

Jasmin from Ashton says she has always had a flair for hair and beauty having started a Saturday job in a Salon aged 14. She said, “I loved working at the salon and when I came to Tameside College to take part in a taster programme in hair and beauty, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue after I’d finished school.”

Jasmin started her Tameside College study programme on the level 1 hair and beauty course before progressing onto level 2 and then a level 3 Apprenticeship at Layton House Hair and Beauty based in Ashton. After successfully completing her Apprenticeship, Jasmin secured a role working at one of Manchester’s top spas at the prestigious Midland Hotel, before returning to college to complete her level 4.

Jasmin said: “Not long after I’d come back to college to do my level 4, I was approached to see if I would like to run the laser clinic and I thought it would be a great opportunity to gain more experience. I’m really grateful to the staff at Tameside College for supporting me through the years, I’ve known many of them since I started coming to college with school at 14 years old. Being asked to run the laser clinic solo as I would with a business when I finish college is amazing and a perfect complement to my level 4 hair and beauty management course. I’m really enjoying the course and know it will give me a competitive edge when I go back into the industry after college.”

Claire Lomax, hair and beauty teacher at Tameside College, said: “We’re incredibly proud of how Jasmin has progressed from level 1 hair and beauty to level 4 hair and beauty management alongside running the laser clinic. With her passion for the job, commitment to her studies and industry experience, we thought she would be the perfect candidate for the laser clinic manager role. It has proved a great move for the Salon as the clinic books up so far in advance now we are hoping to expand our treatment offering as well as the number of appointment days. The level 4 hair and beauty course is very much business management led with a slant on hair and beauty and is specifically designed for hairdressers and beauty therapists who aspire to manage their own business. It’s a qualification that is a real commodity within the hair and beauty industry because very few professionals have it. There are particularly very few level 4 trained laser technicians, which makes students like Jasmin, stand out even further in the industry.”

For more information on the level 4 hair and beauty management course visit the College on Monday 27th June, 6pm-7.30pm for an information evening at the Tameside College Salon. Please register your interest by clicking here.
