Teachers trek for charity

Ian Driscoll, joinery teacher at Tameside College led a team of colleagues to complete the Yorkshire three peaks challenge. The challenge involved hiking to the top of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in fewer than 12 hours to raise money for Manchester based children’s hospice, Grace’s Place.

Adam Johnson, painting and decorating teacher and team member from Tameside College, said: “Some of us struggled up the first peak as we adjusted to the pace and changing weather conditions but it was a great feeling to be undertaking the challenge and there was a real team spirit on the day.”

The team made great progress, reaching the top of the second peak by lunchtime after starting at just 8am and covered a total of 24 gruelling miles by the end of the day.

Ian Driscoll, team leader of the challenge, said: “It has been a really positive experience and we’re really proud of our accomplishments. With a bit more training, I’m hoping to get the team back together to scale some tougher peaks for charity in the future.”
