Former student shares insights into cabin crew career

Travel students were treated to a special visit from Emma Watson, a former travel and tourism student from Longdendale High School who has started a career with Thomas Cook as cabin crew.

Emma, from Stalybridge, spoke about the opportunities that are available to students who apply themselves, are willing to work hard and learn quickly. Students got an insight into dealing with emergencies in real life, working with other travel professionals such as pilots, the importance of flexibility in the job and personal presentation on duty.

Emma, said: “There is a new challenge every day when you work as cabin crew. It is a career that definitely keeps you on your toes but that’s why I love doing it. I’m being paid to travel the world and do what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s surreal coming back to talk to students about my experience because I was in their position less than a year ago, which shows them how quickly they can progress if they apply themselves.”

Ruth David, travel and tourism teacher at Tameside College, said: “Emma has been an excellent and hard-working student since the day she started her course and we couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments. Thomas Cook is a fantastic company that is growing rapidly and has fantastic progression routes for college leavers like Emma. We wish her all the best in her new career.”
