Food students celebrate National Waiters Day

Food studies students from Tameside College had a great day in celebration of National Waiter’s Day to mark the excellence, dedication and discipline of the 2.5 million people working in the Hospitality Industry in the UK.
The College held their very own Waiter’s Race where 20 participants competed against each other to test their skill, agility and balance. Level two Food professional cookery student, Sophie Reilly beat tough competition from fellow students to win the Waiters Race.
Sophie said: “It was great fun taking part in the National Waiter’s Day race and to come in first place was brilliant! It’s really great that the college recognises the food industry so well and days like this make me proud to be part of that.”
College students were visited by local catering supplier, Stephenson’s, who talked to them about the great and varied employment opportunities that exist in the hospitality industry locally, nationally and internationally.
John Holden, food studies teacher, said: “National Waiter’s Day aims to showcase that, jobs in food and hospitality offer good skills, leading to a rewarding career with good progression routes and amazing rewards. The day really demonstrates the values of the profession with a range of activities and talks. It’s been fantastic to get the whole College involved.”
